Hey guys.

Well, sadly to say my K5 project is on hold. My frame is bent beyond use, I noticed it now with my body off. But for the good news, I found a 1 ton 4x4 dump, d60, hydroboost, sm465 ect. Only a 350, but useable. The guy wants 2 grand, but said he will take the 89 1500 I have, and 500 bucks. which would mean i'd be buying the dump for around 850 dollars. My question, Can I use the rear end? Its the dually, I thought 14bff but i'm thinking it would be the dana70? If I can't use it, I have a line on a 14bff. I'm thinking of keeping the 1 ton frame, removing all the dump bed stuff, and shortening the frame to the size of a blazer frame, so I can use a blazer body if need be. What would you guys think I can get for the dump bed, atleast make some of my money back, and still make out in the end?

where is the frame bent on the k5? i would buy the 1 ton for parts. but im sure u can find a cheaper 1 ton just as a parts truck with it all still togs.

When standing in front of it, the right framerail is about 1 1/2 inch higher, and twisted. I only payed 350 for the 89, and 500 isn't really much for a 1 ton dump I would assume.

Edit: Also the dump only has 70k miles, and a new cab from the south.

IMO it isn't worth swapping the hubs to make it srw, the front you need to swap hubs aswell..i would just try and fix the frame, or buy anotjher.

Well, not worried about the rear axle, as I can sell it. I have a line on a 14bff for 100 bucks, and I plan on running h1 rims, so I would need to keep the drw hubs on front to run them correct? I'd rather not fix the frame, just doesn't seem worth it, and if I can cut the 1 ton frame down to the same size, wouldn't I be better off? as the frame has to be much stronger.

Leave both the 1ton axles the way they are and you can run hummer beadlocks without recentering them.

Would I need spacers for the back? The axle looks very narrow. or do you just run the rims on the outside of the dully hub? what about disk brake kits for them?

Not to sure about spacers for the rear, someone else will chime in about that part. I believe Kert at DIY4x would know the brake answer.

Sounds like a C&C 14 bolt, which would be awfully narrow, yes.

Could be a D70, which would be wide.

Check the rear diff to be sure.

i also just got a cab and chasiss dump it has a real narrow 14 bolt if you ran the h1 rims i think you would need the standard 14 rear and the duelly frnt

Nothing to add here, except that a 1-ton dump has got to be hell on the plumbing.

Hah, yeah I thought about that when I looked at the title hah.

So is it a good or bad idea to keep the entire 1 ton frame, cut it to the size of a blazer frame, so I can either run a cab, or blazer body? I figured with that frame, I wouldn't have to worry about strength of the frame. and I can take off the dump bed, and all the hydro stuff and make some money off of it. anyone else have any ideas?

Any positive input? come on guys!
oh and a 1 ton title if u use that, ur insurance or regeration will be higher. i know cause i live in pa too. it was what? 57 bucks a year for regeration. a friend of mine say he pay 140 something a year for regeration on his F250 so something to look out for if u dont want to spend money.

if you run 14b hubs on a d70, its the same width as a drw 60. both at 77" but you need to run disks
