Guy is asking $1000.
1979 1 ton P/U 4x4 longbed 411 gears - not a dually:

Is this a K30?

What axles did this come with?
Guy says 10 bolt and 14BFF. (Shouldn't this be a D60?)

Is this a good donor truck for axles, etc?

I have a 79 Blazer 10/12 bolts.

It should have a dana-60 up front, and a 14-bolt in the rear. Make sure the truck is what the guy says it is. He might be trying to tell you what you want to hear, just to sell it to you...$1000 for this truck, if it has all the 1-ton running gear is a decent price.

Yep, D60s do have 10 bolts on the covers. Some guys have gotten wicked deals cause of that little detail :)

Check to make sure that it has 5 gallon bucket sized hubs (not quite, but you know, lol) and only 3 u-bolts :)

If it does, wave 800 bucks cash infront of him, and he'd probally let ya take it right there :)

Also make sure it is a D60 because someone may of already pulled the 60 and put a 10 bolt in its place.

or a 44

theres alot of axles with 10 bolts on them.

if its not a round cover axle(10 bolt gm) thne check the corner of the diff housing webbing for a 44, or a 60, big raised numbers, wipe, scrape it off real quick

79 could be any of three different axles

10, 44, 60

depending on whether its a 20 or a 30 series

after 79 its either a 10 or a 60, from factory

good luck

Carfeull

be very carefull if you cant tell by looking at it do not buy until its confirmed! i cant tell you how many (1 ton ) trucks ive gone to look at for the same thousand dollar price tag that were really 3/4 tons . some even had the 1 ton emblems . so even if you have to get really dirty to check it out its worth it when you see what your actually getting a killer deal or ripped off so take your time:D

One more question

Opinion question from the builders: If I found that someone already harvested the D60 and it has a 10 bolt 411's and the 14ff 411's, would it still be worth it for the gearing change?

I have I think 308's or close to it based on the driveline spin test I did yesturday. (A little over three turns on the driveshaft to one turn on the front axle)

I am running 33's and its doggy. Would the 411's make that much difference with 33's or bigger or should I keep looking for the next deal to come along?

Swap the axles, 8 bolt wheels for the 6 I have and resell? What do you think?

The gearing would make a huge difference from the 3.07 you got now. If thats what you want, then consider the gear changes alone hired done would cost that much. But it does seem high for just 3/4 ton axles. Any other good parts, engine, trans, t/c ?

here is a sriped 60 front. not the king pins not ball joints and the bolts holding the plates on the diff side. this is were the 1 ubolt will be. and this is a pic of a complet king pin. first 2 years was cast cover rest are tin.

need to be careful though, if someone robbed the 60, and put in a 10/44, there is no guarantee that the ratios match.
