I started my swap this morning in my backyard and all went well. I figured I would start on the front 60 since everyone else usually starts in the back. Anyways, pulled the dana 44 and all was well. then got the dana 60 rolled up underneath and bolted it up. I couldnt install the zero rates , my u bolts werent long enough

. So they will have to wait, new u bolts not in the budget, just wont have the added height. Next problem was the banjo bolts were frozen inside the calipers, so hopefully I can heat them up and get them to come out, instead of forking out $80.00 for new calipers. all in alL I had the dana 60 in and bolted up except for the brakelines in three hours. :D

well played, i will be watching this thread with great interest. im hoping to have my 1 ton swap started within a month or so.

Sounds good. I'm sorta in the same boat. I got my rear 14 bolt on the ground doing the 56" swap.

Well this morning I finished the swap except for the rear ujoint which is supposed to be in tomorrow.
I first removed the rear 12 bolt and tossed it aside like a rag doll. Then took apart the rear shackles and installed an Echobit flip I purchased from another member. after that I rolled/pushed/dragged/kicked, the 14bff under the truck till it started pushing back, lol. I lifted into place and set the perches in the place thay needed to be welded. I set the pinion angle, measured everything about 30 times. I bolted up the spring plates till everything was snugg. Then lifted the axle till the weight was all on the axle. and chcked the pinion anlge one more time. Once that looked good. I welded the perches and tightened everything up tight. I then cut off the shock mounts and then welded them in the correct place.
I cleaned up my mess which was all over the backyard, and put the axles back up on my metal horses. I went ahead and pulled the front calipers to bring to work tomorrow to see if I can get the banjo bolts unfrozen, Cause I just do not want to spend $80.00 if I dont have to. The calipers actually looked good with new seals on the pistons.

As I wrote, I am all done except for the rear ujoint and the front calipers.
If you have any questions please ask.

I will add some things I didnt expect.

I had to buy ubolts with nuts to hook up the front driveshaft to the dana60 instead of being able to use the straps with bolts.

I was not able to install my zero rates yet because I need to get longer u bolts. I was only putting them on for the added height, atleast till I get crossover.

what front springs do you have on there? i had cheesy procomps and the centering pin was a size smaller than what was supplied with the zero rates. ive got superlift now and didnt think to check when i swapped these in.

I thought this was a bolt in conversion. Now welding required. Why did you need to weld?

As the title says " 1Ton swap "

if you get a 14bff from a 1ton truck , there is welding involved because you have to move the perches and shock mounts.

if you get a 14bff from a 3/4ton truck , its a direct bolt in.

oh daum that looks good. and nice choice on the suspension and tires, its exacty what im looking to run, but ill be running the H1's so im getting DRW axles.

the front springs are rough country. a little stiff but cheap :D

Your sig shows your in Alexandria. I work in springfield and live in Hamilton(next to leesburg ). We should do some wrenching.

way more down to do some wheeling.... once the truck is running again, darned lift pump and fuel line.

right now work is keeping me from doing alot of the things id like to be doing. although its allowing me to buy the parts to do what i want to do.

Thought it was the other way around.

Maybe I'm thinking about my year trucks, I know the 1-tons bolt right in.

Truck looks freakin' great Mike!!!

Or you could do it this way and bolt in the 3/4 ton 14ff and pull the guts out of a one ton and swap them in the 3/4 that way no welding required and you really dont need the huge brakes, too much rolling weight..lol . I had a 14ff from a cucv and a 1974 14ff and the parts exchanged perfectly. The cucv 60 / 14 combo were 500.00 and the 74 ff was 65.00 burned out and loaded in my truck, but the 60 needed king pins, bearings, axle joints etc....

This may seem like a stupid question but I'm ignorant when it comes to American cars. What pinion angle did you use and how did you measure it? I am currently doing something very similiar to my truck. I'm yanking out the busted 10 bolt and putting in a 14 bolt SF axle. I'll need to cut off the spring perches and reweld them back on.

Thanks Kurt.

I am not sure about years but what I have read and have experienced is that 14bff from 1 ton srw trucks, you will have to move the perches which I did on this axle, plus the shock mounts had to be switched. and 14bff from 3/4 ton trucks are a direct bolt in which the 14bff I put in my 84 blazer came from a 79 k20.

well its not a stupid question. but to get your degree angle most use a degree finder. Me I am old school and I "eyeballed" it . and I have no vibrations through acceration or a steady speed of about 65 miles an hour.

swap is looking good. i like the way ur truck looks, makes me miss my old 77 gmc pick up with shortbox, 4 inch lift, 3 inch body lift, on 33s..:o i was in highschool!
