I honestly have not looked at my truck to see, but from what I can tell I have a 3 wire alt.

I have found a high amp replacement, but it is 1 wire.

Any problems bolting it up and just running the 1 wire to the HOT of the battery?

Thanks-
Andrew

It shouldn't be that hard to find a multiwire alternator.

If you switch to the 1-wire you lose the ALT indicator light on the dash and won't have any warning when it craps out next time.

i know lots in here run 1 wires, and are pleased, but I'm not a fan of 1-wires personally... the idle/off idle charging of a 3 wire is much better... 1 wire's don't generally start charging till at least 1200 rpm's...

I put one on my 71 in april and the only thing I noticed was that my alternator guage reads backwards now. It charges but it shows negative when it is charging.:dunno: I went with the 1 wire only because I needed an alternator and voltage regulator and that was $80. The one wire was $55. I checked it the other day for charging and it was putting out 14.3 volts at about 1000 rpm idle.
