Anybody need a good used G80 Gov-bomb limited slip carrier for a 10.5" 14 bolt full-floating GM rear axle? Includes a nice 4:10 ring and pinion (pinion housing not included). This is the carrier and ring gear set I just pulled out of a 1996 G-Van axle. The G-van axle housing is getting an ARB and going in to my K10 to replace the Detroited 14 bolt that likes to purge oil after a few hundred miles of highspeed highway driving. Local pick up only…too heavy to ship. $150
Along those lines I will have the complete 14 bolt full floater out of my K10 available in January or February with 4:56 gears/Detroit locker & 13” drum brakes. This housing is a ’76 C20 axle where the spring perches line up with ½ and ¾ ton springs unlike the 1 tons that require the spring perches to be moved. The axle has one smashed spring hanger. This is the axle that likes to belch fluid out of the vent tube after running on the highway at 80 MPH for a few hundred miles as you probably read in my Desert Trip Reports. It hasn’t ever had an issue on local trips or lower speeds. After two complete rebuilds, I give up on the axle and starting fresh with a new wider housing an air locker this time. Last summer I replaced every bearing in it. No signs of overheating so no conclusive reason as to why it likes to purge fluid. The popular opinion is the fluid belching is a combination of Detroit, thick 4:56 gears, camper weight and long distance/high road speeds. Don't see it causing any issues for a local wheeler or rock crawler.
G-Van 4:10 G80 Carrier and gear set available now
Complete Detroited 4:56 axle available soon. I need to pull the axle apart to get the backing plates (brake cable attachment different from G-van) so if someone wants this axle I can install rear disks, application specific brake cables or whatever you want back on it when it goes back together (just send me the parts). Planning to use the G-van backing plates on this axle to sell. Not sure exactly what to ask for this this axle yet but I am thinking around $750.
