On my "new to me" 3/4 ton axle, when I removed the axle shafts there was surface rust on the axle shaft and the inside of the tube the axle shafts goes in. I used my angle grinder and a wire wheel on the shaft but how do I remove the surface rust on the inside? Also when I reinstall the shaft do I need to put any kind of grease or anything on the shaft? On the part that goes in the diff, not the part where the hub is.

To clean the inside of the tubes on my D60, I went and bought a ball/flex hone and a drill extension. Put the hone on the end of the extension, attach it to a drill and there you go! Works VERY well

make sure you get the hone that fits snug in the tube.
