10 bolt carrier confusion!

OK,
I screwed up my 30 spline carrier and after searching here, I found all kind of members that said the carriers are interchangeable by just switching side spiders. I just got a 28 spline carrier off of ebay and after more searching, I found some members saying 30 spline axles will not fit through the 28 spline carrier sides? So, am I screwed or will it work??

Won't work without having someone machine the ID of the carrier to accept the 30 spline axles.

EDIT: it has been rumored that the 30 spline carrier is actually weaker than the 28 spline as the carrier had to be bored out to accept the larger diameter axle but in turn that weakens the carrier itself and they have been known to break where the bearing is pressed onto the carrier.

It would be easier for you to swap to 28 spline axles and use the carrier you have coming. The 30 spline axles were only 1989 and later but all 10 bolts 1988 and earlier are 28 spline and plentiful.
 
Same bearings and seals. All you would need is to set up your back lash and install some 28 spline axles.
