So I just moved and was going through some boxes trying to remember what was in them. I found a rear 10 bolt 30 spline carrier with Gov bomb. Questions is since I'm getting ready to rebuild and gear my front axle can I use this carrier? Obviously I'd need new axle shafts which was looking at anyways. Or am I better off open or aftermarket posi unit?

A gov loc is not a positraction.
It is an open differential that can lock the axles when a speed differential between them reaches 100rpm.
The way it locks is somewhat softer due to clutch packs.
But unlike a posi, the gov loc applies zero frictional force between the axles until their speed differs by 100 rpm.
I wouldn't bother putting one up front.
Might as well put either an open or posi in there.
Do you want the front axles to remain open and then suddenly lock when one wheel slips by 100 RPM!
Not me.
I run an open carrier in my D44 with a Spartan locker up front.
Completely invisible with hubs unlocked.
Slight throttle blip to get it to turn better on steep uphill turns locked in.
But at least it is predictable.
You get used to the understeer and drive accordingly.
I think a gov loc up front would be even worse than they are in the rear.
They were a great idea for dudes that get stuck in parkinglots or on the grass at the park.
Offroad, they suck.

Personally I like/love the gov-lock in the rear, if they are 14sf or larger. If you don't go crazy and know their limitations and function, they are more *versatile* (not better, every option is going to be better at one thing than another, it's just a seamless way to get traction, the downsides are what need figured out in your specific application) than anything else offered that doesn't have traction control.

That said, in the front, it would be horrible. I'd go with a truetrac in the front for a street/light off-road truck. Don't think I'd ever waste time with true limited slip in a full size truck used off-road unless the axle came that way. Better than open, but it's still going to slip under load.
