I have a 10-bolt rearend which I located in a ditch, which is located near my home.

When driving home, I found what appears to be a rearend in the brush, and when I came across it, it was a Chevrolet 8.5" rearend; however, it has 5-lug axles (2 wheel drive), and have plans to rebuild the differential assembly.

1: Are the 2wd and 4wd rear differential housings diffrent in the axle length? The 2wd axles measure 31.375", and the 4wd measures 31.3125". The difference is .0625".

Would the 4 x 4 rear axles swap into a 2wd axle housing?

yes, it is a direct swap /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif. I did the same thing with my 12 bolt /forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif.
