While plowing today with my '90 K5 I blew a front u-joint that inturn scrambled my inner and outer yokes on the stock 10 bolt short side shaft. I haven't pulled it yet as it's sitting in the shop with the snow melting off right now, but in doing some research on-line I see this one is in the group of 10 bolts ('89 to '91 Blazers and Suburbans) that have the 30 spline axle shafts instead of the 28. Question I have, will a D44 front shaft that is 30 spline as well be useable in this case? Like I said, I haven't pulled it yet so I can't verify the overall lenght, but I see the diameters are close as the 44 has a 1.31" axle dia and the 10 has a 1.28" one. Just wondering if I have D44 shafts so I can test fit when pulled, but if not I'm off to the boneyard.

The lengths are different since the diff is offset a different amount between the D44 and 10-bolt (meaning the short side is shorter and the long side longer when comparing them).

The diameter of the 30-spline 10-bolt is also 1.31", but the pressure angle on the splines is different and the machined seal surface is different between them. I went through this years ago before it was even commonly known there were 30-spline front 10-bolts (Stephen at ORD didn't even know) and kept getting D44 stuff.

Thanks guys, was thinking it was a no go, but figured I'd ask. Guess I'll be scoping the boneyard next weekend. I read the '89's were a mix of 28's and 30's, but the 90 and 91's were supposed to be only the 30's.
