I know 10 bolts arent a really prized axle for wheeling but for the time being thats whats under my 89 K5 with 35x10.50 Tsl boggers. I exploded my 2 smaller spider gears pulling another pickup out, im just gonna replace the 2 broken gears and weld it up, i will prob start breaking u-joints but they are easier that rearends. I have a 14bff and a D44 for it, just need extra cash for install.(still hunting D60) Anyone have any other strength suggestions for the 10 bolt or have any luck with what im doing to it???:confused:

i personally don't think you should weld up the rear diff with running the tires you currently are, most definately start snapping axleshafts.

Ya i was about sure of that. so far the 10 bolts did just fine when wheeling, all i do is mud and the rough roads to get to it but they held up. i knew it would go pulling on a buried pickup from fairly solid ground but it needed out. any strength ideas, i know hardened shafts, chromoly, and such, i have 30 spline, posi would be nice but if im gonna snap a shaft every time i go mud runnin im not gonna be happy lol

Honestly? costwise, no,,,just get the new u-joint and get that 14b mounted under there. You can run with the 10 bolt up front if you're not too hardcore with it, i have been running mine for several years now and just recently snapped a long side axleshaft, figures that i just replaced the steer knuckle joints too...

only issue with the rear will be rims and tires, unless you have some 8 lug 15's.

I would just replace the spiders, and be aware of the weakness of that rear diff, and get busy with the swap as soon as you can.

aint gunna cost ya practically mcnuthin ta put the 14 rear in dewder..:wink1:

is it outta a 3/4 ton?

35's and yer front should be prolly fine, but its the "grabby" boggers that are gunna be breakin stuffs.. especially the pizza cutters you gots

:edit: that 44 ya got isnt very interchangable wit yer 10b, and is just as crappy of an axle

Yup its out of a 79 3/4 ton burb so the spring perches should be the same, has open carrier so i can weld it or buy spool or detroit. I can get ahold of some 8 lug 15s im sure and the "trick" u-joint isnt to expensive either. I cant wait to have it under there and i love these tires! the only problem is the 14bff has 4.10 gears and my 10 bolts are stock (3.73?) Thats the big issue but the D44 is the matching front with 14bff

And ya i know the 44 isnt really any stronger than a 10 bolt, still on the hunt for a d60!!

if you do decide to go with the 10bolt and weld it make sure you check and makes sure your carrier isnt twisted. when my spiders broke they bound up the carrier and it twisted, set it on a table and spin it and see if it wobbles if it does get a new one
