well i got the axle under it, everything mounted and hooked up, put the yoke from the 10b on the 12b pinion.. then i realized the problem. the 10b yoke is bigger than the 12b. so after going to napa a few times trying to get the right seal that has the same inside diameter as the 10 bolt seal, and the same outside diameter as the 12b seal. to no avail.. can anybody help me with what seal to get? this is the last thing holding me up getting the K5 back on the road.

not sure if you can get that seal. but i thought you usually just go with a different u-joint. 1310/1350 u-joint. dont quote me on this!!! Whats the difference in the u-joints cuase i am swapping my 12 bolt in this next week?

yeah, i didnt want to have to get a bastard u joint. but i did some research and for anybody doing a 10b to 12b swap i found the seal you need if you just want to swap yokes.
google: American Components C19277

napa also has it.. part number: 19277 just passing on what i found. hope it helps somebody thats broke like me :P

Swapping yokes without replacing the crush sleeve means can have an impact on pinion bearing preload. If the preload isn't right, the diff will fail in very short order.

Do 10 bolt and 12 bolt yokes interchange anyway?

yeah, i know that one works too, but the tolerances are a tad bit more off than the 19277

why dont you just put the driveshaft that went to the 12 bolt in place of the driveshaft you have with the 10 bolt. the 12 bolt it 1330 joint 10 is 1310

the 12 bolt stuff is small. but i dont have the driveshaft and it may come to that, but im doing it this way because i can. lol notta big deal just putting out the numbers if anybody else was looking for the part i was

are you saying the 10 bolt u joint is bigger than the 12 bolt yoke

Nope, way off on that bit of technical advice.

Most 12 bolts had the 1310 series u-joint.
Most automatic trans 10 bolts had a 3R/S44 series u-joint (similiar in size to a 1330 but easy to distinguish because the 3R had the internal c-clips versus the outer snaprings on a 1330.
Most manual trans 10 bolts had 1350 series u-joints, not sure about the manual trans 12 bolt trucks.

Notice I said "most" because Chevy was known to throw out a few random variations through the years, but every one I have personally seen was the above.

well i dont know what to say mine was the exact opposite. the 12 bolt i got was 1330 and the ten bolt i took out of my blazer had 1310. i guess im the person that is not "above" but i didnt fart around with that 12 bolt nonsense for long anyways i blew it 2 months later and got a f/f

i was on my third 12 bolt and decided it wasnt worth keepin it and went 14ff also.

easiest way, is just get the conversion u-joint. no screwing with preload, seals, ect. around here they usually always have the smaller conversion joints in stock.

Sorry to bump this up!

The 8622 seal is nothing more than that factory 3R yoke pinion seal from a 10b. I went to get one last night and needed a front pinion seal as well because I'm swapping a matching 10b/12b in for my 10b/10b and all VatoZone had was one. This was a helpful thread and I just wanted to add my .02 with what I learned using this info to help the next guy.
