Gents - I have encountered a minor problem. the stud on the left is from my stock 10 bolt rear, the stud on the right from the 14 bolt sf replacement. anyone know of a step down stud to retain the original lug nuts? I still have my original 10 bolt front and I'm looking at some serious redneck engineering to make the 14sf stud & nuts fit on my stock rims.
Currently thinking, drill out 5 stock rims to fit the bigger lug nuts, drill out the front 10 bolt axle shafts and pound new stud in to match the rear. I want to do this so when I get a flat, I don't scratch myself and say should'a done it this way.......

Please tell me a better way & save me from myself!

The studs arent the same size? wtf. I just picked up a 14sf and even thought I have read up as much as i can this is the first time I have heard of this..

A good auto parts store (i.e. not Kragen, Pep Boys, or Autozone) should have a book full of nothing but stud diagrams. Take both studs down there and match the knurl/base size of the 14 bolt and the thread size of the 10 bolt to the closest one in the book.

yap - I researched big time and didn't se this comming.

Dan- you mean like a rim shop, or maybe 4 wheel parts?

well sunofabitch. I just went out and checked, and sure as ****, my 10 bolt lug nuts don't fit on the 14sf. Wtf was the point then. I am fairly pissed off now... I think im just gonna sell this axle and get 8 lug front and rear so I can at least rotate rims. I mean sheyit, I could have just ran a 14ff rear and had 8 lug rims on the back and 6 on the front, since they 6 on the sf wont work for the 6 on the 10 anyways! fml.

hey even better

14 bolt sf = 400
14 bolt sim kit =120
my buddies labor so far = 200
conversion u joint i dont need after changing yokes = 35
straps for above BS = 30 +

so what ? 800 + ? yup - go with the 14bFF and buy new damn rims.

I am not even counting the 4+ hours and beer to cut the old s+*t off

but, alas should I go off road i won't have that clearance issue of the 14bFF.

Bah! B.S. - the matching set ( 14 FF and D60 ) is $1k max here. oh well - in too deep to turn back now :)

I have a 14ff w 4:56's, detroit, and disc brake conversion, just that the 4:56's are too steep for my truck. The diesel would much prefer 4:10's. ANYONE WANNA TRADE?

All you need to do is buy the correct lug nuts for the 14SF. The studs will still fit through the wheel it just uses a larger lug nut.

The lug holes in the wheels are all the same size. :deal:

You guys don't want to use the 14bsf lug nuts?
Yeah, sure it is little inconvenient to have two different size lug nuts, but not enough to change a whole rear end. And it really is problem if you have to use the mag style lug nuts.
Otherwise, I like the added security of the bigger lugs studs.

Seriously? I have a 14sf from a 91 Burb, 4.10s and open, drum brakes. Ive got a line on a D60 front, but need a 14FF to go with it. Transportation might be a deal-killer, though.

the problem is the bigger lug nuts don't fit in the hole on the stock rims - too big. I would need to drill out the holes on the rims ( stock 88 K5 rims - the aluminum ones ).

the studs for the 14b sf are 14 mm - I already bought the lug nuts and found out they won't fit.

Just went out and pulled a lug nut off my 14 bolt SF and tried it in one of my old GM alloy wheels and it fit just fine. I got them from my local tire shop and the front 7/16" lug nuts and the rear 14mm lug nuts both take a 13/16" socket. If you want to upgrade the front to the larger lugs, that's one thing, but it looks to me like the easiest solution is new lug nuts.

I mean a good parts store with guys who know what the hell they are talking about, maybe a Napa, or a driveline shop, or a brake parts house, or maybe just a local parts store that isn't a national chain with high school dropouts and ex jiffy-lube employees.

check out Dorman website, they have diagrams there, then take the number to Autozone and get em.

ARP - is that like a grade 8 bolt or something? thinking I could tack weld the grade 8 bolt heads to the back of the axle shaft and use the original lug nuts????
