Okay, fellas. I'm sure that just about everyone on this forum has done a swap like this already, so maybe some one can give me some advice. I want to swap the axles from a 5/4 ton CUCV military pickup onto my '85 half ton truck that still has the stock 10 bolts. Will the spring perches line up? Will the steering arm from the 10 bolt front go onto the front Dana 60? What about the driveshafts? I think both these trucks have a slip yoke style NP208. I'm trying to gather some info before I go out and try to acquire of these CUCV parts trucks.

You will have to move the perches on the rear, but the front will bolt right in. If the 85 is a long bed (CUCV is), I don't see why the shafts would not work

Unfortunately, the '85 is a short bed. Guess I'll have to have the shaft shortened. What about the u-joints - does the 14 bolt use the same size yoke and all as the 10 bolt? What about the u-joint size on the front D60 vs. the stock 10 bolt?

You'll have to get a conversion u-joint. I can't remember the number off the top of my head... if someone doesn't pop in with it i'll find it.:doah:

14 bolt is usually a 1350 yoke.
s44(gm 3rl) to 1350 is Neapco PN 2-1153 or Precision PN 447
1310 to 1350 is Neapco PN 3-3140 or Precison PN 348

I just went through this with my burb in the last couple days. The 1-tons I bought were upgraded I guess cuz I have a 1410 spicer yoke in the rear and am having a driveshaft built. Up front I have a 1350 yoke in the axle and had to use the 1310/1350 ujoint. the s44 is a little bit bigger endcap than a 1310. Both front and rear yokes are ubolt style which I found out is a good thing too.

This thread hooked me up....

Just an added question, what about brake lines for the rear? Will the soft line have the correct fitting for the 14 bolt? I know it will need longer lines, but do I need to have them made or do I just buy extended lines for a 1/2 ton?

FYI, I have been searching on here and Pirate.

You will prob have to drill out the bracket on the soft line for the 14 bolt if you chose to use it.

What if I can get the 14 bolt from the rear of a 3/4 ton truck? Will that be easier to swap in? I've heard that the spring perch width is the same on a 3/4 ton as it is on a 1/2 ton. Is this true?

Yes, its not much trouble to move them, esp if you use some made my DIY that have the integrated zero rate, But if you dont have torch/welder etc, the 3/4 will def make it alot easier.
