Well after reading the threads about the 10 bolt's strenght, i decided to keep it for now. so im planning on buying new gears for it, probably 4.56. I was just wondering if i would be able to install it myself or do i need to get a shop to do it. And also, if i should buy the kit with new bearings and all, or just the ring and pinion. Also if u guys can please give me some tips and stuff, things i should know before i do this, that would be nice. thanks

if you have a stock ten bolt then you prolly have 3.08 gears,i have the 10 bolt in my truck, and i never had any problems with it. and i beat the he** out of my truck. that's with 35 . i put 3.73's in mine and i did it my self .you just haft to make sure that you get the shims lined up and the back lashing correct

Do it right the first time. Have a knowledgeable tech install your gears with new bearings. Gears are not something that you can just do in your driveway with basic tools. You need a couple special tools and some know how to do it right.
