10 to 12 bolt interchangeability?????

I'm wondering if you can swap the rear backing plate with the wheel cynlinder on it, form a 87 10 bolt to a 84 12 bolt, and does the drums interchange as well, was also wondering if the axle seals are interchangeable too.

I have 83 10 bolt brakes , backing plates and all , on a 70's 12 bolt

The difference is in the center section and axle spline .

no such animal. 12 bolts were phased out in 1981.

I got a set of axels and the guy said they were from a 84, now I know better. so the backing plates will work, what about the axel seals.

Should be no problem on the seals . I stuck 30 spline 10 bolt axles in a 12 bolt for a month ( with material welded on the end to make right length to the crosshaft ) while waiting on 12 bolt axles , and no leaks or anything .

so are the 12 bolts stronger or the same as 10 bolts as far as strength.

they have a couple MARGINAL strength differences...not really worth talking about...in all honesty, they are just about the same strength overall.
