Im gettin lazy searching so thought I could get some concrete info on a 10b rear govloc axle. No one wants it but ive got it under my new jimmy. Im gonna run 33" and only see light trails for this is not my fulltime wheeler. My question is though if I was sticking with the 10b can I swap a detroit locker or trutrac in it and rid myself of the potential govloc bomb? or will I need a different axle for the govloc is to intergrated into it?
Ive been having a hard time figuring out If i want to swap a 14ff under it for fun but the xtra cost of swapping the front, rims and tires and all the other crap that goes along with it ( which I just did to my truck) doesnt seem neccessary for I dont wat to go bigger than 33" for now:D. 6lug- 8lug 14ff 14bsf 10b 4"? 6"? 33" or 35" so many choices. srry for the rambling.

can i simlply swap out the govloc for a locker?
thanks

You can get a full carrier replacement locker. A detroit won't work without buying an open carrier. The carrier must be replaced, and the gears will have to be setup again.

thats wear I am confused too. Ive heard it just swaps out and others say I need to get a new carrier. So it looks like the locker should come with all I need. great. thanks guys.

With the exception of the 14bff, a detroit is a full carrier locker.

The "lunchbox" lockers retain the existing open carrier and replace the side gears and spider gears in the diff. lock-rite, e-z locker, and aussie locker are all lunchbox style lockers.

Strength wise the detroit is much stronger, and the 10 bolt carriers are known to fail. I ran a lunchbox in my rear 10 bolt with 33's for 3 years and only broke 1 axle shaft. Other's have destroyed the carrier itself though:dunno:
