10bolt to dana 44

Ok I'm 99% sure everything is a direct swap except for the brakes. I've read that the dana 44 calipers have a different fitting that the 10bolts.

1) Am I correct in saying everything will bolt right up except the calipers?

2) Can I bolt up my 10bolt calipers to the 44 brackets and be good?

3) Will I need a new front ujoint?
 
The D44 will directly swap in place of the 10 bolt. The only thing that will swap between a D44 and 10 bolt is knuckles out. The D44 uses a 7/16" banjo bolt for the brake line and the 10 bolt uses a 10mm banjo bolt. Yes the 10 bolt calipers will bolt onto the D44 mount so swap the axle but keep your calipers. Also the warn hubs are the same between D44 and 10 bolt.
 
aAh ok awsome. Well the hubs are knuckle out so they'll work then?

Yes they'll work. I forgot to answer your U-joint question but all front U-joints are the same unless someone has changed the front yoke.
 
Why are you swapping a 10B for a D44? Did you break the 10B?

My 10b doesnt match the gears in my 14b and I dont have the money to go 1 tons. I found a d44 locally that has the right gears so I'm swapping that in. I know the d44 is only a hair stronger.

1 day I'll go 1 tons. But once I get the d44 I'll have 2 spair shafts wont I? Wont the 10b shafts work in a 44?
 
Ah so the outter shafts work but not the inners... What usually breaks? Isnt it the necked down part of the outer shaft?

Never mind I just looked it up on ORD's site. Its twisted splines on the stub shaft and the neck down before the splines on the inner shafts.

The only thing stronger on D44 Vs 10 bolts is 44s have slightly thicker axle tubes and bigger bearings. 10 bolts have stronger pinnion shafts/bearings +axles are a quite a bit stronger on 30 spline. But it is 6 of one 1/2 dozen of the other.
