I'm just turning the alternator by hand. I replaced the bearings in the alternator. Before replacing the bearings if I turned the alternator by hand it would spin many revolutions. Now when I turn the alternator by hand it may spin only once around. Maybe when pounding the new bearing in I bent the housing? I'm not sure why it is not spinning freely. Maybe the new bearings need to wear in?
I did not use a press to install the bearings. I carefully hammered the bearings in using a socket. Maybe I got the bearings crooked. Also could it be that the bearings need to be worn in some before they move more freely? The old alternator had alot of slop and play. With the new bearings there is no play at all. The rear bearing has a seal that sits tightly on the alternator shaft.
