11/2" square tubing strong enough

i am making my rear tire carrier and the triangle shaped bracket that the tire
will be mounted to and this bracket will be welded to the tire carrier spindle
is 11/2" sq. strong enough ?
its 1/8" thick

tire size will be no bigger than a 38 x15x10

I dont see why not. There is a similar one on my 82 Jimmy and it has held a 35x15.50 TSL on a 15x10 steel wheel without problems!
