12.50 Tire on 8.25" rim - stupid or acceptable?

Is it wise or unwise to run a 12.50 tire on an 8.25" steel rim?

The rim in question is a stock GM 8 bolt 16.5.

i would say acceptable. i know lots of people that run 36 inch swampers on 8 inch wide wheels to tuck them in more to protect the valve stem

hell i run 39.5x13.5x16in iroks on 6.75x16in rims and they run fine

I have my 42-14s on 9" rims

im running 7" wide wheels with a 13.50" wide tire.

i would try and stay within 4" either side of width of rim

thats whats recommended anyways

but many ppl go farther than that, heh
