12-bolt carnage

Well, my Friday started off good, but soon went downhill. I flexed a couple of hours from work and was headed home with a new steering box, hoping to cure my wandering front end issue. Only about 1 mile from home, I was stopped for a light. At this particular intersection, people like to get in the turn only lane and pass on the right. Some little crapbox pulled up beside me and I thought it would be cute to hammer the gas when it went green. Well, I stabbed the gas and no sooner did that happen when it went BOOM. The only things not broken were the axles .

I got this axle only a year ago from a guy on here. I think it might be time for stonger parts

No, it wasn't a gov bomb. It was a factory style posi, which I just rebuilt about 6-8 months ago. When I replaced the 10-bolt last year, it was because the gov bomb went. Here are a couple of pics from that incident..

Yes, it broke the carrier into two seperate pieces! I'm not sure in what order, but it also broke the bottom drivers side cap bolt off.

That looks an awful lot like a gov-loc, but what do I know... other style posi's might have had a locking pawl too.

Not a big deal, but if you re-read both of my posts and look at the pics you will see that the first two pics are of the 12-bolt (that just blew out Friday). You can also see, in those pics, the clutches for the posi (NOT gov bomb). The second set of pics is of the 10-bolt (WITH a gov bomb) that blew out last year about this time. Yep I see it now the first set of pics has two sets of clutches. So that is a limited slip dif, the second set is def a gov-bomb. I missed the other set of clutches underneath the pile of parts in the first pic.
