I blew up my carrier on my 12 bolt and want to find another. What are the differences in carriers they put in these axles? Large for 3.73 and up? Small for 3.73 and down? 3-Series, 4-Series? What dose this mean. Can someone take this bag of snakes and lay them strait for me. I need to find one so I can instal new gears, bearings, and such to get my truck up and running again. I miss her so much!

A truck 12-bolt has three different cases, called 2, 3 and 4-series respectively. These are the ratio splits:
2.56-2.73
2.76-3.40
3.73-4.11

my 12b pinion bearing went last year. loss of oil. I went from 3.08 to 3.73. I had to get a diff carrier. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

So, I need a series 4 in order to instal 3.73s. Too bad, I bought a whole 12 bolt with 2.80 gears and now I can't even use the carrier. I only paid gas money to go get it so no big deal. How can you tell which carrier is which, if it dons't have the ring gear on it (with the teeth count stamp)?
