12 bolt diff. questions

I was given a 12 bolt axle. It has an open diff. that I was planning to weld and put in my 12 bolt. I have a trashed Eaton posi in it right now. My rear end is a 3.73- I believe the open diff. is a 2.7? (can't remember the last number right now). The question- can I just use the 3.73 ring and pinion in the open diff carrier? Or, do I need a different carrier? First attempt at diff work so be merciful! /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif Thanks!

Youd have to check what the carrier breaks are, I dont remember off the top of my head.

Case changes? You mean the carrier itself, correct? So no way I could use the 2.7? carrier with the 3.73 gears, right?

Correct. The carriers for the 3.73's are quite common......shouldn't be too difficult to find the one you need. /forums/images/graemlins/waytogo.gif
