The dreaded 12bolt front!:haha:

Non-existent as far as I know, I just remember the thread where I guy claimed to have one but could never provide pictures as evidence.:doah:

No such thing. D44, 10 bolt, or D60 for Chev light duty 73-91.

Edit: as mentioned below, you can make anything, however there are only 3 stock front ends for the '73-91 K/V trucks.

Technically someone could make one . It involves changing the tubes and welding on the knuckle ends ( called C's ) and springpads . Not to mention you would need to center the center section more to make the passenger side spring not hit the housing making driveshaft not line up right anymore ( normal fronts have a notch in the upper left of the center section where the spring sits ) .

Doubt anyone would go through the trouble

it would actually be kinda a cool project for someone learning or wanting to do some kinda fab work. i sold my last dana44/12bolt for dirt cheep. i probably should have made one just to post a picture to say i own the only 12bolt front ever... i dont know if itll be functional though wont the axle spin the wrong way

There is no wrong way , think what the axle does when you back up out of your driveway , it goes the other way . Your front is always in reverse .

I'm sure this has been covered a zillion times, but how do you tell the difference between a D44 and a D60? I'm going to look at this truck and the owner is insistent that it's a "12 bolt from a military suburban" as far as I know (correct me if I'm wrong) there are no military suburbans (I think i've seen some pre 65 cargo wagon types). The PO did the swap so either he made up the military part or the suburban part (let's hope it was the suburban part :) )

So what's a quick way to tell if it's a D44/D60? I doubt I'll be able to read a BOM on it, and I haven't seen enough to tell right off the bat.

there were no military burbs, or i should any designed for the military like the cucvs. If he did swap under military axles it should be the dana60
