I got a 85 chevy 4x4 pickup that has a 12 bolt rearend with a gov-loc. Just recently it won't unlock at all and acts like a dam spool barkin tires at every corner. Anyone familiar with the crappy gov-loc and what might be the problem. It's mainly used for beer runs and as a parts getter.

85 should be a 10 bolt rear.
and if a gov=bom is acting up .01% its time for a change .
and if a gov=bom is acting up .01% its time for a change .
The flyweight is perhaps stuck in the "out" position.
Might be able to fix that, might not, in which case you can rip it off and it's an open rear.
Not much to repair on these things, the parts are hard to find, and the tools even harder. I checked repair out, not worth it. Even the GM dealers replace as a unit now.
