I have a set of 12 bolt H1 rims. I intend to recenter them and install nylon internal bead locks. I got ready to take them apart and could not even get the nuts off - THE NUTS HAVE 5 (FIVE, OCHO) SIDES, not six! I need a five-sided socket, aka pentagon socket, to get the nuts off. I have checked with all the tool trucks in Anchorage and with Sears. Nobody has even heard of a five-sided nut, let alone a five-sided socket. I Googled it and found a bunch of 13/16 penta sockets, but I don't know if that is the right size.

I have thought about ways to get them off, but have yet to come up with a pheasable option. Anyone have any ideas?

O'reily has a socket that can take any shape, it has those pins that take out the void no matter what shape it is.
It would work if that is only a one time thing and you intend to replace them later.
If you want to keep them then just get the right socket, and I am no help there, no idea what size it is.:dunno:

You could weld a regular nut to the penta-nuts, but doing that 48 times is a lot. What if you do this to one nut, to make your socket out of? Then cut 5 small scrap pieces of steel and weld one to each of the 5 sides of that nut. Then weld the 5 gaps in solid. This is your new socket.

i ran into the same problem.i ended up hammering a heavy-duty 19 mm deep socket onto the nut and using a big breaker bar.after each nut i had to put the socket into a vise and pound out the nut with a drift.sucks, but it works.
