12 bolt locker

I just bought a twelve bolt rear from a 73 chevy truck. Would this have c-clips? And what type of locking diff should I buy? I want to wheel the truck somewhat hard but it is still going to be primarily street driven.

Yep, the 12-bolt is a C-clip diff. For lockers there's the Detroit C-Locker, EZ-Locker and Lock Rite and possibly others. If you don't want to go with a locker, lots of folks are happy with the Auburn posi unit for mudding and such.

i have the posi in my 12bolt and it sucks ya it is better than being open but i wish i would have just went with a detroit

To me a Detroit locker is the only way to go.

I am a firm beleiver in Eaton, no not the Gov-Lock, the other possi..........
For about $350 you can get the newest Eaton possi, with Carbon Fiber clutch packs.
FYI Auburn is not rebuilable, when it wears out throw it out, and it will wear out.

I'm about to drop an ARB air locker in there. To be, it seemed like the best option.

I've had two aurburn's in mine. Blew a spider gear up in one an the other had a ring bolt take it out. so i went to the trusty Detroit.

I realize that a locker is probably best for wheeling purposes, but I have heard that a locker is not necessarily the best option if you also do a lot of street driving in snow. Would a posi be better in this case? Mine with an open diff sucks in snow/ice. Any opinions here?

in the snow a posi will act just like a locker unless you have one tire on pavment and on on snow then only the one in the snow will turn
