how do you tell if ts a 8.75 or 8.5 ring gear. it is a 77 blazer chassy
need to get bearing and seal kit to install. what tools am i going to need special
tools i will need, i have a bearing and race driver installer coming in also a dial indicator with magnetic base.
I have never messed with a rear end beside changing fluid or brakes.

8.5 = 10 bolt

8.75 = 12 bolt

FYI : there is car and truck 12 bolt . get the correct parts .

better read up on setting gears . its a slow mans game to get it done right . not just a wam bam call it good.

ya ive watched 7 vids and i have 2 books on it so ill spend my free time reading

also its a truck 12 bolt truck where should i get the rebuild kit from? i don't want to do this twice.

I got my bearing & seal kit from Jeg's; from what I remember it was like $80, including shims, gasket, crush sleeve, gear marking compound, new pinion nut, basically everything you need except gear oil.

But yeah, make sure you get 12-bolt truck parts, not 12-bolt car.

Good luck,
Clay

Cool thanks, and both those kits use koyo bearins and i was looking for the link you posted
