I recently purchased a 12-volt rear end thinking that it would fit underneath my 1972 Blazer the problem is one of the spring hangers is facing forward and the other one is facing towards the rear and the spring perches are 6.5" from the end of the axle. I believe I have a square body axle housing and really not sure if it would work properly. Just wondering if anyone would have the axle housing specs for a first gen blazer.

So I know the site limits your ability to post pictures until you have enough posts or paid membership. But pictures are helpful

the 12b came under GM trucks starting in the 60s up through the late 70s, all from the k5 or k10 application

They should all be the same width IIRC, and your measurements sound close to normal

Are the shock mounts on opposite sides of the axle? I’m trying to envision how the perches are as you said

Yes one shock mount is facing towards the cab and the other towards the rear. I am just worried about overall width and the spring perch placement. Maybe I am over thinking the whole thing. I will upgrade my membership and post pictures.

The offset shocks are normal on most years

Easiest thing to do is measure from flange to flange or from the back of the brakes on each side for overall width, and outside of each perch for the width there. These should be close

That is what I was thinking and will do

If i recall 67/72 use 40.5 spring center spacing . 73-87 use 42.5 unless 1ton thats 40.5 .

2wd and 4wd i recall have shock mounts flipped so there not direct bolt in .

So best to measure and check .
