I have an 83 K5 10 bolt rearend and 38.5's super swampers. Just simply driving it around in the yard i blew the readend spidergears. I would like to upgrade to a 12 bolt but would like to keep my existing 6 bolt axles. Is this possible? if so, what year ranges can i simply attach a 12 bolt in?

A 12b isnt a meaningful upgrade over 10b, just fyi. But 70’s 12bolts will bolt right in.

Your best bet would be a 14bsf from 3/4ton 80’s suburban and swap 6lug shafts from 88-98 1500 i believe with tow package. Someone else who has done swap can confirm.

Thread i started:

What he's saying is the only bolt-in option, unless you can find an axle for sale already done. Search out the 14b s/f tech thread.

The other thing you haven't mentioned is what gear ratio you have. I understand that you probably want to keep it simple, but you should think long-term and it's possible swapping both axles to 8-lug makes the most sense. People get hung up on wheels, but buying and selling a set of wheels is not terribly expensive.

Oh, and if you can weld, an H2 axle gets you a selectable locker and disc brakes with parking brakes. A 2014+ axle gets you the 14b s/f diff with 6-lug and disc brakes.

Yeah your right. its about the wheels i have id like to keep but hell i guess sell those and get some 8 lugs. just trying to stay on a budget. Dont know the gear ratio will be checking out soon once i take the ring gear off.

You can get matching set of 3/4 ton 8 lugs (14bff or 14bsf) for under $500. Most have 3.73’s or 4.10’s. People sell regeared 8lug 3/4 10b’s after they decide to swap to a 60, so could try going that route and then find rear to match front ratio (if you wanted 4.56’s or higher numerically, lower gearing wise)

I appreciate the help thank you very much

If you know the spiders are fragged, you've already pulled the cover. Ratio is stamped on the edge of the ring gear - or you can count teeth ring/pinion.

And you usually want 4.88 or even deeper with tires that size.

yeah i was trying to send a picture to everyone but its not letting me for some dang reason but anyways yeah i took the whole thing out but this one doesnt show the gear ratio so i just need to count the teeth or pull the ring gear off from the housing im sure its stamped there. ive read those blazers at the time either came with a 3.08 or a 3.42 nerveless its not the good ratio for the tires that im running
