Well it looks like im am going to have to swap a 12 bolt in place of my 10 bolt, since a 14 ff is too pricey to swap in and time consuming for me right now. I was just wondering, what i would have to do to swap in a 12 bolt in place of my 10 bolt.

Change the u-joint , thats it .

And if you undo your backing plates , and carefully lift off the brake assemblies , and tie them up over the axle , you could reuse your existing brakes and drums etc .

I have a 12 bolt in mine , with my original 10 bolt brakes and lines . We just dropped the axle away from the truck brakeless :thumb:

Forgot the u-joint number , just have to look in the ck5 part # post again !

BTW , you can use the 12 bolt brakes if you wish , the lines will mate to your truck .

But beware that early 12 bolts had skinnier brake drums and shoes . Don't want those with a fullsize .

If you can only find a 5 lugger , the 6 lug shafts will fit no problem .

4 speed trucks had a 1350 yoke and is a great find .

And carry some shafts , you may not break , but be ready if you do .

I bang on mine with a locker to work , to trails , on trails , and on long trips :D

he doesn't have much left of his brakes....look for the gorman thread in the pacific forum.

sunny get a hold of me. I'll go pull the cover on the 12bolt I have today. and see if it's any good. What gears are you running?

Yea, Im trying to get the axle in this weekend. I need truck to drive to work. As for the ratio, i have no idea. But when i spin the front drive shaft 4 times, the wheels spin once. And Devin, my dad already bought a 12 bolt without me knowing:doah: . We are going to check it out this weekend. hopefully he didnt buy it yet. If I don't end up buying the one my dad found, I will probably be buying yours:D .

iv been trying to get under there and open the cover, but i haven't had time, cause work. i will probably get the cover off this weekend

Was it exactly 4 times? It should be more or less. 3:73 vs. 4:10.

Make a mark on your pinion and the housing and then on the ground and tire. Then rotate and count. Or you can just take the rear cover off since you already have to do that.

The conversion u-joint I use is #372 at O'Reilly's. I don't remember the brand right now, but it's a lifetime warranty. It was their name brand joint. It cost me about $25 maybe a little less. :thumb:

Ok, so to my understanding i can either get a conversion u joint, or switch the 10 bolt yoke witht the 12 bolt yoke and get a new seal. Which way is better?

I'd get the conversion joint , less hassle that way .

I have swapped yokes before , and have had them work well , from a 12 bolt to a 12 bolt , but haven't swapped yokes from 10 to 12 before .

Do you know the part number for the coversion u-joints? iv tried searching but can't come up with anything for my local parts stores, napa, autozone, kragen, pepboys, paw. thanks
