my 4x4 suburban...does this have 6 bolts or 3...I need to rebuild the trans and a friend said that some torque converters are 3 bolt and that this is 6 but he wasnt sure.

Yes the diesel TC is 6 bolts, the gasser is 3.

Do not try using the gasser TC you will shell out the TC in short order it is not built for the hammering of a diesel. I have seen it done but did not last long at all.
