12B Gearing question

I currently run a 12B with 3.73's and 35's but need to replace it. I know it's undergeared and had hoped to move up to 4.11/4.56.

I have a chance at a 12B with 4.88's. Any thoughts on this gear set in a 12B? Everything I have seen says the RPM at 65 would be around 3K, is this to high to spin a 400 small block?

I love the idea of being geared that low but I need to drive to and from the trails, so highway or continued high RPM is a concern.

Anyone running this combination (400/TH350/203/12B) with 4.88's?

Thanks for the input.

3k is not that bad if you don't do it all the time .

You could always look for a built 700r4 too , mine has miles on it but with the big ass cooler its been reliable , and its public record how many times I have used my rig too .

my blazer has the same combo as yours but i have 4.11's in it with 35's. at typical socal freeway speeds the rpms were around 3300-3500. that rpm shouldnt be an issue for a 400 or any engine really, my toyota pickup on the freeway runs at 3000rpm in 5th gear.

Thanks for the input, I guees I'll go ahead and try it. The price is right so it's really no great loss if it doesn't work out.
