Has anyone seen one of these? is it just a myth? Thought i read somewhere that chevy used to use 12bolt rears in there 3/4 ton vans and that they were 8 lug?

only 12 bolt 8 lug i know of (i might be wrong) is a dana 60 rear

And 12 bolts on the cover does not make it a "12 bolt".

AFAIK 12 bolts were only available with 5 or 6 lugs, but you never know. It is a SF axle so a simple change of shafts/drums could make it 8 lug (though I don't know why they would do that).

To make a frankenaxle just like my 14b 6 lug no floater...

It is easy (i.e. all it requires is custom axle shafts and brake drums/rotors to match) to adapt any SF to any lug pattern.

8 lug axles have 8 lugs to increase the weight capacity of the axle. There is no changing the size of the wheel bearings on a 12 bolt and therefore no changing of its max weight capacity, hence my comment on there being no reason for an 8 lug 12 bolt.

SF 14 bolts have bigger wheel bearings and the only reason the 6 lug 14 bolt exists is to match front 6 lug axles (I would assume). The wheel bearings are capable of taking the "3/4 ton" load and hence some SF 14 bolts are 8 lug.

Prior to the new body styles in the 70's most 1/2 tons were 5 lug , 3/4 tons were six lug , and 1 tons were 8 lug . That is talking pickups 2wd . 4wd never had 5 lug as far as I know .

I don't know about 8 lug 12 bolts , never heard of that , but many 3/4 ton rated 60's pickups had the 12 bolt .

Blazers have always been six lug in 1/2 ton 4x4 and 5 lug in 1/2 ton 2wd .
