has anyone ever used any of the 12 volt compressors and have one that they recommend that is inexpensive but good?
years ago I remember a thread https://ck5.com/forums/threads/want-an-on-board-air-system-for-25.140528/#post-1235196 and I ended up with a couple of these. unfortunately they were stolen a few years ago. I had took the fitting off the compressor and bought a tap and had it so they would take a regular style coupler and you could use a regular air hose with them.
I will probably just buy a couple more of the MV50s and modify them.
just wondered if anyone had any input on something else.

I opted for the ARB dual. They are not inexpensive
Recently @mrk5 had need to service his early model one, and ARB warrantied the parts despite its age

I have ARB in both my LJ and X Chassis. the X is kinda overkill in the air department. it has an ARB for the lockers, a York for OBA with the tube being a tank and a CO2 tank.

Not like either of those. The head and care as big as the motor. It is great for volume, pressure is only 60 psi.

I had an air-zenith on my dodge for 12 years. It lived above the frame rail under bed it's whole life. Worked awesome. Being under the truck eventually killed it. I replaced it with dual vair 200s. I lucked into a killer deal on the pair.
They work just fine. But the single air-zenith was a better setup.

I have an ARB twin like @Bent77 mentioned.

It's basically 2 of their standard compressors connected to a common output. Have had it for about 5 or 6 years.

This summer the bolt that connects the motor crank to the compressor broke. Before I knew what the problem was, I contacted ARB for troubleshooting tips and they tipped me off about the bolt. They said it was a common failure with the "older" compressors and they have since changed the way it's made. They replaced that half of the assembly FREE despite the age.

After the replacement the other half failed on the next trip. That bolt had a definite lifespan. Again ARB replaced the damaged unit.

I'm very pleased with ARB customer service. I didn't even have to call. This all started with an email to the tech department hoping they could help me find the problem. The other thing I like is that because it's a twin setup I still had air despite 1 half failing.

Like @Bent77 mentioned, it's not cheap but I feel like it's an example of getting what you pay for.

I use mine for the lockers and airing up tires. I prefer the Powertank inflator over ARB's. I also have a small tank for air horns and air bags.

I have had a Viair 400 for about 6 or 7 years now. It was originally a portable unit that got carried around in the back of my rigs over the years filling tires after the trail or filling air mattresses. It got upgraded to OBA setup in my daily the other day. It has yet to skip a beat over the years. Not the fastest but gets the job done.

I have a Viar 400 that needs a cylinder and piston. I have ordered from 3 different places, no luck so far. Had to reverse the charges on the CC on all 3 after they each missed 2 shipping deadlines. This was in April and May. Might be different now. But if you are not able to ship them, disable them from your web site.

did you ever get that Viair fixed?

I’ve had the cheap mv50 and the bigger Smittybuilt compressor. They don’t last.

Spend the money to get an ARB or Viair. But on the Viair make sure you are getting one with 100% duty cycle. The smaller cheaper models are not 100% duty cycle.
