Lookin for one to put behind the 408 and after I get the 700r4 rebuilt and ready to go. Preferably one with some sort of locker or limited slip, and I want one with 6 lugs so I can keep my rims.

One in the Michigan area would be fantastic, and not rediculously priced lol.

what's an average price for a 14sf? didn't the late 80's "light" 3/4 ton get those.....or am i just senile?

got one here in colorado springs.. May be coming through your way in the next month or two.

Oh yah? Details? What you want for it man? And what do I have to do to make my driveshaft work with it? I dont have major funds at the moment due to the fact that i will be droppin a grand soon for the motor and more for exhaust, and then the tranny build.

The pinion is like 1.5" longer. If you have a lift and the stock driveshaft this is actually a good thing. You may need the 447 adapter U-joint, but a 6-lugger may actually have a 1330 yoke on it.

make sure you get one from a 4x4, the 2x4's were 3 inches narrower. 88-98 4x4 1/2ton will have what you want. Most of the 3/4 ton 6 luggers were 2wd and too narrow to use on a k5.

Well price wise

I paid $300 for one I thought was good with 3.73's (I really wanted 4.10's)

Pulled the cover and the spiders were wasted... but it was 4.10's...Yeay

So after bearing kit, seals, brake shoes, and spiders or e locker (haven't decided yet) my budget baby 14 turned in to a freeking money pit.

They came in 88-mid 90's K2500LD's (the 6 lug trucks) and 88-98 body style K1500's with the F44 RPO code. Researched this about a decade ago and no one could figure out a rhyme or reason. Z71 DID NOT automatically get you the 14SF. We had guys with light GVWR K1500's with the F44 RPO and the 14SF but guys with fully dressed out Z71's with the Z82 towing package with 10 bolts.

Best would be an open diff so you could put a LockRight or NoSlip locker in it. The factory traction adder is the G80 GrenadeLoc that no one's really a fan of.

Your rear axle dying or something?

All the yards around here want 200-300 for em but thats from a wrecking yard. Most guys around here don't know about them so when a truck gets parted out they don't even look at the rear axle just assume its 6 lug so it must be junk.

3.73 shouldn't be too hard a ratio to find though. I know of 4 in wrecking yards here with that ratio.

My rear end seems ok, gears all look pretty good, but I figure that behind that 408 its not gonna wanna last very long:whistle:

I guess Ill just wait till I break mine before I get a new one, but its very nice to have info on one before the other breaks so I know exactly what to look for when the time comes.

Sorry if I missed it, but have you posted any information on you 408 yet.
I'm a huge 400 fan and haven't gone .040 over before

Just got done with a 14bsf 6 lug swap. It is a pretty ideal swap. You can even take the pinion yoke off the 10b and put it on the 14bsf. Ebrake cables will swap over. Brake lines hook up. No major mods other than spring perches and shock mounts. FWIW, the 14bsf we used was off a 93 2500LD 2wd. The width is about 1" wider than stock. I like how it turned out.
