14 bolt and 10 bolt

Ok just wondering. I had another guy tell me it was over at DieselPlace. It looks like the diff is slightly off center looking at it from the rear, but I didn't know if the actual output shaft at the pinion was.

Okie dokie. I was just curious because my pinion is not facing the t-case output shaft. It is slightly over.

Quite a few vehicles have the transmission output shaft slightly off center in relation to the pinion yoke...kind of like this .. / --not sure about GM's,but the u-joints can and do make up for the "misalignment"..in fact there might be some degree of offset needed for them to run smoothly..?..

Ok. The only reason I am so caught up in this is because I am still getting a slight bit of vibration from the rear when lightly accelerating and immediately upon decelerating (for a split second). This is all after putting in a cv shaft and rotating the axle up to accommodate for the angle. It is just frustrating and I am looking for answers or advice is all.

You may need a slight downward angle on your pinion after the cv shaft swap. This is for axle wrap upon acceleration. From what you are describing, this could be your issue. Can you post a pic of your rear pinion angle?

It is down by 1 degree to accommodate for throttle, I made sure to get it set right before it got welded up. The only things I can think of that would cause it are the slight offset of t-case output shaft and pinion (left to right) or excess backlash.

The diff housing is slightly offset, but the pinion is centered as best I can tell. Even if it wasn't, u-joints can compensate as long as the t-case points straigh back and pinion straight forward.

I have a 14bff with a CV. mine is set at 1.5deg down at the pinion. No vibes whatsoever. If yours is essentially the same setup, you have something wonky going on. Is axlewrap an issue on your truck? Spring bushings? Anything weird?

Axle wrap shouldn't be an issue, I used 7" spring perches. What about 6" shackles with no cross brace? Just a shot in the dark.

Eh, that might increase your lateral movement, but not vertical movement of the pinion. Still sounds to me like axle wrap or bad driveline angle.

Also, the CV knuckle usually has some stops cast into it to limit the angle. Any chance you're exceeding that? Under deceleration, your pinion wants to go down and if it has room to do it, it will increase the d-shaft angle. Unlikely, but you never know. What about loose u-bolts?

U-bolts are tight, and I feel like with the pinion set a degree lower for acceleration it shouldn't be that. Also I thought the 7" long perches were supposed to decrease axle wrap. It does have the factory rear springs though and they are "soft", so that could be a cause. What about the excess backlash? Possible culprit?
