Got the carrier out of the axle, took the ring gear bolts off, and the sucker won't open. Tryed prying it a bit still nothing. Its a 4.10 geared govlock carrier, the govlock has been acting up lately, there were alot of shavings on the magnet that weren't there two weeks ago.

Did you take out the 3 screws that hold the carrier together? They are under the ring gear.

I used an impact driver, with a big philips head on it. You hit the driver with a hammer, it gets forced down and turns at the same time. You could try hitting the screw driver with a hammer to shock it loose.

Got it open, one of the spiders is completely destroyed, and it looks like it hurt the side gear too. So much for just welding it up.

You can weld it up as long as the splines in the side gear are fine. Since nothing will be rotating it does not matter if the gears are chewed up. Clean it well with brake Klean and weld that ****er up.

uhh are those three screws only for a gov lock?

Yes the open carrier does not have them it just falls apart when you take the ring gear off. It really falls apart if you have a detroit and don't put a bolt through it before you take the ring gear off:doah:
