I’m looking for a 14b FF axle with 4.56 gears. I’m not having any luck searching CL and OfferUp. I tried searching the axle/suspension section here, tried the local salvage yards and these seem to be long gone in their stock form. Does anyone know where else to look? I don’t have social media but occasionally I have my wife check FB market place, no luck there either.
I have a 14 Bolt FF under the K5 now with an open 3.73 diff I could trade if that was helpful. The leaf perches and shock mounts have been clocked for 4-6” lift. I’m located in the Seattle area. Thanks!

Yeah it’s just crazy what the local shops are are charging, $2200 has been the average, i priced it out and it’s about $850 in parts (master install, Yukon 4.56T gears and a grizzly locker…) I’m considering attempting to do it myself, I’m a decent shade tree mechanic, but never messed with rear ends. My concern is if I screw it up and destroy all of the parts then I might as well have paid someone to do it..

Don't forget to look at 2wd trucks. A c20 work truck could have 4.56, I got one a while back from a 2wd.

14ff is the BEST one to learn on as no press on shims to set pre-load or backlash . and WOW 2200 bucks is crazy and i was in the biss for years .

if not dead set on a locker i have a brand new 4.56-up gov-loc that gm used for years . the 14ff ones are the best of them over the rest . i did dd to mud to snow and stock 350 to built 400 sbc and never a problem . and in snow its the way i would go as the short time i had a full locker i had to have it in 4wd to drive on the street in more than 1" of snow or the rear wanted to be the new front end .

read this and see what you think .

The drop-out pinion makes it one of the easier axles to set up. Swapping to another axle just opens a different can of worms. You'll likely have to move spring perches, get new U-bolts, replace some bearings or seals, and who knows what other surprises from the previous owner. Plus you'll still have to buy the locker. Just something to think about. You might also reach out to locals to see if somebody can stop by and increase your confidence in your first setup.

A word of advice is to never drive more than a bit out of your way to look at an axle until you have pictures of the insides.

Thanks for the replies, my gut has been telling me to just re gear my axle and it sounds like most people think that’s the way to go too. It’s an axle that is good for first timers, and I don’t have to worry about buying other peoples problems and winding up with more work to do in the long run.

I was condering a gov lock, I’ve owned many trucks with them over the years and never had an issue either. Unfortunately my rear end is a 3.73 which if understand correctly is the smaller carrier break, so the 4.56 and up gov lock wouldn’t work.

Mine is for a 4.56-up combo . You were looking to go 4.56 is why i offered .

Its 4.10-down or 4.56-up in a 14ff .

All my years with these trucks i have never got factory 4.56 .

Just regear yours .
I had a 1988 crew cab cab and chassis stock 4.56
I have a 1999 crew cab dually flatbed with a 4.56 stock.
I also have a cucv which obviously is 4.56 and not uncommon to find.
They are not common on single wheel trucks but I did find one once, 1975 c30

I'm in Sultan, WA and will be picking up a parts truck with 4.56 14FF in a week or two. It is a rusty bucket but currently running and driving on the road.
