I just got my 14 bolt FF and when I pulled the hubs off I noticed there was no grease in the bearings. DO these bearings get there lubrication from the differential fluid or should they be greased just like the front bearings. If so, does this mean I can just slap in new ones with nothing on them and then im done?

oil from diff is lube. i just dip them in fresh oil first and install them. drive it a bit and recheck diff level.:wink1:

I must be an idiot, wondered about this too, but I packed my bearings with hitemp bearing grease and installed them before thinking. When I tore it apart, they had been greased before so I thought I was doing good at the time. Guess I got a project for monday, tear apart hubs on 14ff and clean all the grease out. :doah:

its not going to hurt anything if they are greased.
Are you sure, the axles are on stands in my garage right now, so I could clean the grease out if need be, but if I don't have to I won't, canyou say PITA

Anybody else have an opinion on this? Clean or let it eat?

I packed my bearings with grease when I installed new bearings and that was 3 yrs ago. Still running on the same bearings with not a problem :thumb:

Another vote for leave it be. Some people grease 'em, some just dip 'em in the oil. Either way is fine.

The greese will just melt into the oil. In something like that there can never be to much lubrication.

Some grease will stay on them too my breather got plugged once and it built up enough pressure ( at least this is what I think happened) that once it unplugged itself I was left with not much gear oil in the diff I didn't ruin any bearings and I do grease my outside bearings
