I got this 89 S10 blazer on solid axles and link suspension, but it's only got dana 44s under it with 40" swampers. Haven't broke it yet, but I am about to swap in a tbi 350, and so I'm done with pushing my luck.
I have a 14b FF sitting around, so I'm gonna gear it and put in a Detroit, weld up some link mounts and toss 'er in.
I've been looking at gears and install kits, and some say up to '88, others are '89 to '97, and others are '98 up. What is the difference between them for bearings and shims?
The truck this rear came from was a 1998 K3500, but it was a bit of a mongrel and I do not know if it was original. Is there any way to tell?
It is 67" wms-wms, and it has the hubs outside the drums if that helps. To further confuse matters, the truck was a dually, but I do not know if it was converted or if it came from the factory as a dually.

Shims are the same across the board, the big deal is the big pinion bearing. '88 (or so) and older uses one size, '89+ (or so) uses a big pinion bearing that's ~1/8" bigger.
