I have seen a lot of pictures of 14 bolt axlles with discs, and I have decided to do it on my 85 K30 SRW 4x4. I have researched it and have found that Off Road Design and DIY4x both have quailty kits to use 3/4 T GM calipers and rotors. I would like to know what are the pros and cons of each kit(price not included), and which one would you guys recomend? Any info will help, Thanks!

most everything can be had at local parts store . just pick diy4x / offr oad design / ruff stuff brakets . there the 3 most popular companys here and also paid vendors also .

some like caddy calipers in back for parking brake . but there hit or miss on function . so research that good before you buy them if you plan on it.

I did disc swap in the back of 1 of my trucks and had 1ton hydro boost brakes on it with 1 ton master . I bypassed the stock prop valve and direct tee fittinged the front and adjustable willwood in the rear line . few test drive and I got what I liked for frt to rear bias .

there is some valves now offered with disk/disk or even stock style and built in adjustable valve for rear right on it even with brake light warning switch .

Ive recently did a disc swap on my 14bolt, I went with the DIY4X kit. Their brackets are not only stiffened with gussets, but they have 8 mounting holes instead of 4, that way you can clock the brackets at nearly any position you want.

I walked out of my local NAPA auto parts store with rotors, brake lines, banjo bolts, calipers, and brake pads for around $200

One thing to keep in mind is that you may need to buy longer wheel studs, I found out that the original ones were about 1/4" too short so I went with 3" long studs

Overall I'm pretty satisfied with the kit and will definitely be ordering more stuff from the DIY4X crew :thumb:

i used the ruffstuff brackets and they went together easy. Have caddy calipers installed but have yet to finish the parking brake. Used a coupon from advance auto, and got the calipers, rotors and pads for less than 100 bucks. If i was to do it again i would probably go with the DIY4x brackets, only because of the gusseting, and its probably not needed but who doesnt like a little overkill :thumb:

And i agree with the wheel studs, i had to replace mine as well because of length.

Thanks for the pictures, those are great! I think I will go with the DIY4X set up, because too much is just enough. Does anyone know if the 3/4 t chevy calipers and rotors are the same as the ones on the front on my '85 D60 ?

I'm going with the 3/4 T calipers and pads, because they are truck parts, and I don't need the Ebrake function of the Caddy brakes. I've got a tail shaft drum e-brake on my tranny that works off of the stock cable. I was hoping the parts would be the same as what is on the front of the truck, but it's no big deal if they aren't. Thanks again for all the good info, guys!
