I'm looking to put a 14 bolt from a 2006 1ton duramax in my 89 blazer. Anything else i need to change other then spring perches.

Might be. The guy selling it has it listed as a 14 bolt.

I know we typically look for pre-91 with pressed on drums behind the hub. You can google the "14 bolt bible" and it'll tell you what you need to know.

Also, Im pretty sure thats not a 10.5in AAM either, Im fairly certain thats an 11.5in AAM. And that thing is a beast. And lockers for it are crazy money.

I may be wrong about this, but isn't a 2006 1 ton an AAM axle and not a corp 14 bolt?

Yes

It still has a "14 bolt" dif cover, and is still very commonly referred to as a 14 bolt.

Pre-91 is basically because theyre bolt in. BUT, thats only if theyre from a 3/4 ton.Which, in this case, would mean pre-88. Which was harder to find after the early 80's because the introduction of the SF 14 bolt with a 9.5" ring gear.

It would indeed be a 11.5" ring geared AAM 14 bolt. I know that no GMT400's got a AAM. Also, i believe the first year for the 11.5" was 2001, the year the Duramax was introduced.

What im trying to say is, unless you plan on having a twin turbo Cummins in your crew cab on 38's this axle is way overkill. Its a very stout axle, and is found in the Cummins, Duramax, and 8.1l trucks that had allisons.

Dodge uses 11.5" shafts in a modified 10.5" carrier in the power wagon.

Sorry for the ramble. Hope all your questions are answered.

Yep, my buddy has an 04 8.1L and it has it. (btw ALL 8.1s had the Allison, basically the 8.1L trucks are a Duramax equipped truck without the Duramax itself).

That thing is a monster, and it is extremely expensive to modify. I looked up locker prices for it awhile back, and wow to say the least. Its no ordinary 14FF in that respect.

I do not agree with this, but i cant prove all pickups with 8.1's didnt have allisons. However, I can say that not ALL the 8.1's had the allison OR a 11.5" rear end. The burbs, yukon xl's, and avalanches with 8.1's had a 4l80e behind them, with a 10.5" FF
