scored a DRW 14bFF today. Great shape. Dad's neighbor picked it up and was taking it to the scrap yard. So I asked him how much he would take for the axle, spring packs, and steering gear box. And he says how much will you give me? I said how's $5...... Can you believe he was actually excited about it.. Even help pull everthing out... Anyway, here's my question....Over the past years I've worked with a few 14 bolts but don't guess I've ever seen one with 45 teeth and the ring gear and 10 on the pinion. Isn't it usually 41/10 or 41/9.... Maybe I've just never seen one with those numbers. Has anybody else seen this? Never heard of 4:50 gears ratio... Could this be a misprint in the stamp on the ring gear.. Just a feeler...

whats the difference between free floating and semi??? sorry for the newb question and the thread hijack. :o

On a semi floater axle the axle carries the weight of the vehicle as well as torsional stress on the axle, a full float axle the weight of the vehicle is supported by the axle housing and the axle only sees torsional stress. If an axle breaks on a semi floater axle the axle/wheel will leave the housing and do lots of damage while a full float axle can break and the axle/wheel stays on the vehicle.

Thank you! how do I identify the two at a wrecking yard?

A semi float axle will look the same as the 1/2 ton axle looking from the side at the wheel.

A full float axle will have a second set of "bolts" (8 to be exact) that hold the axle to the hub which protrudes through the center of the wheel.
