Also memorial day weekend I will be driving from lansing to Burlington IA so could possibly meet up with anybody along the way or near burlington.

I'll take it if your coming down I94!
I'm at exit 85, 7 mi south.
Let me know the day.
I'll have cash waiting.

What year of van did this come out of? Just curious so I know what to look for around here when I want one.

Not sure on the year I just seen round headlights like on the 80.5 down trucks and 3500 on the side, stopped and seen the removable pinion so snagged it up. What area are you in I usually come across quite a few parts and can get something for you if need be.

The ribbing on the housing indicates the newer style with larger pinion support bearing. I have one I got out of 1995 G30

best to measure the wheel flange to flange width . I have 1 from a 93-95ish its the wide one . then I have one a friend had from the next body style up and its same width as a truck at 67" wide .

I also find it odd how all these newer 14FF's have drum brakes that press on with the studs thru the back of the bearing hubs rather than some of those claims of 85-86 years where they say they're slide on like the 14SF's. I have never seen a slide on drum on a full floater for the 14 bolts.

seen lots of slide off and fixed drums on 14ff over the years in 88-up stuff.

that newer van axle I spoke of above has slide off drums.

and fyi to those who don't know slide off drums are different hubs / spindles and disk brake kits are specific also .

Those spring pads look like the wider width of the GMT400 years, consistent with the ribbed housing. :dunno:

I've not seen an older style 10.5" axle with removable drums, but they're definitely a thing that exists in the newer series. Here are pictures of my 1997 G3500 van axle (in my 1984 Suburban). Drums slide off like the sf axle drums do. Much nicer than messing with the hubs all the time.

Yep, hubs are different. What differences do the brake kits have? I haven't cross-checked parts numbers, but my late-series 13" brakes look a lot like the earlier series 13" brakes. :dunno:

@thatK30guy, here is what it looks like with the drum removed. Lug mounts are further inboard vs. the earlier style, and the lugs are much shorter (they're just running through the hub, not also the drum). Looks the same from the outside, the hub and drum are just in opposite order on the spindle.

I learned the hard way years ago the pop off/slide off drum style has a shorter spindle and bearing to bearing gap in the hub .

fast way to disk brake swap is find a rotor that's smooth on back side like the drums are to sit on face and do weld on brackets.

or you can pull the hubs and press on rotors with older / longer studs and still use weld on brackets .

there is 1-2 places that make kits for these .

and I have a 88 k30 crew cab rear with multi rib housing and old drum brake style . they used what they wanted in the late 80's and 90's .

Yeah, that's how my dad's '93 K2500 is. New housing but still the nasty brakes. :dunno:

Having the removable drums just about eliminates the need for switching to discs, IMO. Ease of service, all OEM parts, and no need to mess with proportioning valves. Unless you really want discs, it's not worth changing it.
