Do semi float front ends even exist?

They don't in light duty trucks anyway (I've never heard a of a SF front end but it probably exists somewhere).

I never saw the point of using a 14 bolt front end. The ring and pinion is stupid strong (likely stronger than every other piece of the diff) but has pretty poor clearance and is heavy.

If I made an axle from scratch it would use a 9" center section.

Can't recall his screen name, but it was a kid out in California....axle was under a '69-72 black Blazer.... He sold it/parted it out last year. Anyone recall his screen name?

Wagoneer Machine was making them a few years back if I remember the mags correctly. Think they were D60 outers though.

my bad i meant to say it is based off a semi float 14 bolt so it uses the same ring and pinnion and yes all front ends are full float that i know of

Are you sure they use the same ring and pinion? Because the fronts are listed as 9.25" and the rears are 9.5" (ring gear diameters as listed on the AAM website).

It's very involved, and not cheap. No idea why anyone would want to do it, but....whatever.

seems like a D60 makes a lot more sense, especially since you can actually get new parts for it if you need to instead of all sorts of custom craziness.

K5MONSTERCHEV was the guy who built it (his name was Greg too, IIRC). It had a centered differential which made no sense due to oilpan clearance issues, and never had axle shafts installed to actually drive the wheels. It was a weird idea that was never brought to completion.

The Hulk was a different vehicle that used Unimog 404 axles....VERY COOL! It had a reverse mounted transfercase to provide a 50% overdrive so that the truck could be driven on the highway. From what I heard, the original owner has sold the truck so I'm not sure where it is now. I think originally it was in Canada. :dunno:
