Curious have a 78 14 bolt full float axle and my need backing plates for my E-Brake cables should be here tomorrow. I already took old backing plates, cables off but curious since don't know life of this axle should I replace wheel bearings? Have seals, brake kit with all new hardware and springs ready to go. Bearings are not cheap with races but taking it apart 3 or more times would get old. Any advice from fellow members?

New brake hardware is not too expensive. You could inspect the bearings. Check them for pitting, and loosness between the the race and cage. New seals are a must if they are old.

Shocked only one person with input here on this subject. Napa dropped off hardware kit/springs and seals today! Backing plates should be here by end of tomorrow according to UPS. Thanks for backing plate help and offering the only set you had up thatk30guy :waytogo:

as 1-ton said . remove / clean / inspect / if good re-OIL ........NOT GREASE packed and run them .

if problems replace .

fyi .

back/inner race out of hub . then big snap-ring for outer/front race . then press out race with bearing with out hammering on bearing as that will hurt needles and race surface.
