I have rebuilt my hubs except for the seals. I know how the seals that I took out were installed, however I am not sure if someone had replaced them or not, and perhaps installed them backwards. The rubber tends to protrude more on one side of the seal than the other. which side goes in towards the bearing?
Also, one more thing. My chilton manual said to pack the bearings. I know some people think they run in oil but I packed them anyway. Any comments or bad experience with this? Thought I would run them with the packed bearings for a while then drain the fluid and refill after about a 1k mile break in. any input?

Just an FYI I also installed new speedi sleeves on both sides.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Packing the bearings isn't necessary since they run in an oil bath but it is good insurance.

As for the seal, typically the part number will be stamped on the outside of it so you should still be able to see it once installed. If there isn't a number on the seal body look at the rubber lip, the angle should go against the oil to stop it.

Like this -> oil / (against the oil will stop it)

Not this -> oil \ (with the oil will allow it to pass by)
