hey all, I need to fix an occasional drag and put new parking brake cables on the 14 full float under my 3/4 ton. The axle was under the truck when I bought it and has never needed maintenance.

My question is identifying an age range so I can order parts. I will attempt to upload pictures in a few minutes. The housing is ribbed-second design- but still has press on brake drums. The shock tabs and spring perches look unchanged for my 1982 3/4 ton truck. I thought second design had slide on drums. Also, Is there a way to determine the width of the brake shoes before teardown? The max dia stamp is 13.09" so I can assume 13" drums.

Thanks all

2nd design, ribbed housings originally in square body trucks have pressed on drums. Slide ons are 88+ C/K series stuff.

13.09" = 13"

Original gears? If so, there will be a date stamped on the ring.

Most of the IFS trucks still have press on drums, the slide on drums seem to be the exception (and didn't exist pre 88 AFAIK). No idea on the rhyme/reason of what got what in the 90's.

The only slide on drums I've seen are on van axles. Not sure if that was a rule or if I just haven't seen enough trucks yet.

IIRC, 2.5" shoes were SRW and 3.5" were DRW.

my k30 srw factory has 3.5" wide shoes and 13" drums .

and pop off drums are on srw trucks and its hit or miss over the years in the 88-up style body trucks . I have seen pop off or press on drums like old . and disk brake swap kits ARE SPECIFIC to pop off drum axles . the spindle is a different length over the older style . hubs don't even swap . I found out the hard way 1 time.
